British Airways Manual Fares and Ticketing

These training programmes are aimed at people who aspire to the jobs with an approved travel agency/tour operator or airline reservation, and therefore require the professional qualifications that are a prerequisite for a successful career in the travel industry. On completion of British Airways Level I, delegates are encouraged to continue their training to advance level on the British Airways Level II course. In a competitive job market, there is a tendency for prospective employers to stipulate that priority is given to level II holders.

These courses are taught by British Airways approved instructors using the latest training techniques and course materials. British Airways qualifications are recognised throughout the travel industry and can therefore be used to obtain employment with any major airline or travel agency worldwide.

British Airways Level I

Entry Requirements: None

An introduction to the world of manual fares and ticketing. This comprehensive programme is fundamental in providing the skills you need to service your client's flights requirements.

Following the course, delegates sit a 2 ½ hour examination, successful completion will enable you to:

Effectively plan your client's itineraries and be aware of various courses of information available.

Identify and select an appropriate fare for your client's journey.

Accurately construct a fare for short multi-sector routing using the mileage system.

Course Outline

Five day intensive part-time or self-study.

Presented in modular format

Defines industry terms and outlines information for comprehensive itinerary planning, including:

  • IATA geography
  • Health
  • Passport and visa information
  • Country by country information

Analyses fare sources and fare types, focusing on normal and special fares

Explores ticketing, baggage allowances and taxes

Introduces fare construction using the mileage system

Completion of BA level I or a pre-entry test

The course

Develops existing skills by expanding your knowledge of fare construction to increase your competitive edge in the market place and enhance sales potential. Following this course, delegates sit a 3-hour examination. Successful completion will enable you to:

Construct fares in Neutral Units of Construction

Combine sector fares and identify the limitations of indirect travel

Calculate mixed class, special rebated fares

Provide reissues and refunds

Course Outline

5 day intensive, part-time self study

Presented in modular format, employing scenarios, review and practice exercise to strengthen product knowledge

Revises basic fare construction principles

Analyses fares with more than on construction point

Introduces fare construction using the mileage system

Investigates in more depth multi-sector routing, ticketing and open jaw combinations

Entry Requirements

BA Level I or some previous travel industry experience

The Course

Galileo is the most popular computerised reservation system (CRS) within the travel industry. It is used by agents to check availability of flights, car hire, hotel bookings, confirm seats, issue tickets and print out itineraries. Our Galileo courses are delivered by approved trainers using FirstClass computer based training software. First class covers all the essential aspects of the Galileo system, combining computer-assisted instruction with CRS simulations, interactive role-play and cumulative testing.
